    squeal in LF wheel

Hey guys, M3 D3 has developed a massive squeal in the left, front wheel on a drive to Melbourne today. I tried to remove the wheel to have a look, but my jack gave up the ghost, nearly losing the wheel off the disk ... oops! Anyway, I couldn't see anything wrong (it sounds like a rock caught in the brake disk).

Anyway, I have the day off in Melbourne tomorrow, and I'm looking for a LR mechanic in the Western suburbs (I'm in Sunshine West at the moment). My usual mechanic is located in Romsey, and I'm loadther to drive that far with the wheel the way it is.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Update:

It's a ball joint. It was basically resting on the brake disk... Ouch!

    Damn what a pain!

Was there any indication this was becoming a problem or just the screech started?

there was a very faint dragging noise off throttle at 90-100. I only noticed it due to how quiet the car is. My mate couldn't hear it, so i ended up discounting it for a month or so.

dangerous situations such as this can be avoided. you are very lucky to be alive. if you hear anything unusual, it is usually worth investigating it. many years back in my youth i once turned up the radio to drown out a squeak from the front of my old 2 door rrc, while on the freeway at 110. it was a wheel bearing disintegrating.

I drove a Series 1 R33 GTST almost all the way from Melbourne to Sydney with a destroyed rear wheel bearing. Not so good for the camber wear on the rear tyre, but held together to make it! haha
