    Speakers in Disco II

Hi, I have been trying to find what size and what speakers people would recommend for a Disco II S. My disco has an aftermarket JVC 3.5 inch screen CD / DVD player and looks like it should have a fair bit of punch. The standard speakers have no grunt (or bass) and want to fit speakers that can deliver some bass without putting in a sub ?

Crutchfield recommends Sony XS-GT1638F 6.5 inch which are shallow and can fit in front and rear doors for $50 ? Does anyone have these and are they any good ?

    Any help much appreciated.

    Matt.

Same for me too. I've been doing some research to no avail. I'm going to take the speakers out tonight and have a look and measure.

I had some 6.5" alpine component speakers in mine, G series, not sure if they were shallow or not TBH, but the front are proud of the door, in the door card, and the rears are below the line of the window when it's open so I don't think there's a need for shallow fitment. The rear door cards also have an area near the top if you want to cut out for separate tweeters.

The only think I had to do when fitting was run a sharp knife around the card speaker openings just to give a little but more room.

I fitted Sony 6.5 inch speakers in the doors of mine. They are way better than the originals, but will still not give you what I would call good bass.

I also fitted a sub in the back in place of one of the side storage boxes (where the third row seats would normally store if you had them - I don't), plus an amp under the front passenger's seat.

Made a huge difference. Son now has the Disco and he has changed the head unit, but still running the same speakers and amp. Still sounds good (other than the head-banging music that he plays through it ).

Pic of the sub installation below.

    Cheers .........

Thanks all, I changed the fronts to Sony XS-GTF1638 6.5 inch speakers but hasn't made much difference from the originals. Fit straight in which was good. Still no base so I am now looking at the Fusion 8 inch underseat sub which retails at approx $150.

The original disco I nearly bought had the Harman Kardon 12 speaker system and it was awesome. Very fussy about my speakers so will get the sub as don't want a box if I can avoid for security (and vanity reasons) as now in my 40's !!! Or does anyone have any other ideas out there ?

I got a Fusion underseat sub plus wiring for $180, got wired up to stereo and sounds much better. Still trying to find a hole in the firewall to get the lead to the battery. Current grommet semms to be full and wondering if there are anymore ?
