    Hi Sushiman,

I can't advise you about the ease of removing the factory bars, as mine never had them. However, your idea sounds fine. The roof gutter sills are pretty strong (in my experience anyway) and should take a fair load as long as you spread it around a bit.

I lashed out and bought one of those TJM full length 'split level' aluminium roof racks and it's brilliant. You know, the ones that follow the roof contour. It has the mesh style floor and I wouldn't use any other type (eg just the bars), as you run the risk of whatever's on top pushing through and rubbing the hell out of your paint work - as someone else said in these forums, somewhere.

The only drawback with mine was the cost (around $1300 two years ago), but 'horses for courses', you gets what you pays for... With the TJM thing you can put anything you like up there (it's great for firewood) and nothing will rub if you tie it down properly.

You can even stand on it to load and unload, but if you're my size, I wouldn't recommend it!! I usually send the skinny members of the team up there... whilst I stand below and bark orders between beers... 8)

    Regards,

Mine came with the factory bar's, I went for a half length steel rack that fit's from the rear door to just over the backs of the bar's.

Got mine made as a lower profile and has been great

    They are great.

Nice wide spread and I tried it with the bull bar ones off(two pencil Cibies) and they give a good long range as well.
