The military did not buy Rovers because Landrover did not submit a tender for the contract.

I dont know if there has been any post in relation to this but i am wanting to know more about this so if anyone has any info, do tell....
So the Aussie defense force just bought over 1200 of these and now there is a rumor that merc is gonna release this ute version for Aussie private sales, if so i think i might consider a this extra-cab chassis version in their "professional" or "military" spec
Just look at it ---

Is there any info on the Merc's that have superseded the army Land Rovers? how are they performing and what did they cost compared to a Landy?
I just had a look at the South African website where they sell the Professional G's and they only have the wagons listed. If they sold them down there I would imagine getting them in OZ would not be an issue.
It may pay to send a message to Mercedes ZA to enquire.

All I know is that it is a variant of the G Wagon SUV. I have seen them around Newcastle quite a few times. They look awesome. But one thing they don't have I imagine, is the simplicity of the Defender or Land Cruiser. Minimal electronics is a must for me and being a G Wagon it would have huge amount of complexity going on under that bonnet. I could be wrong.
They had suspension problems with the G350 wagons on the CSR back in 2011.

$161k a piece! ouch!
The G wagen Professional is not being sold in Australia, I looked at this in depth as I would have bought one, the G-Pro is being discontinued worldwide 2013 -2014 , It does not comply with ADR and can not be made to comply with Euro 5 .
Nearest thing you can buy is a G-350 which is $50,000 more expensive and attracts Luxury Car Tax , but at least still has live axles and 3 diff locks.
I bought a new Iveco Daily 4x4 instead.
See the attached document for specs on the ADF models.
We will not ever be able to buy one, new or at end of service life.
It has very different electrics to the W463, encased in a waterproof enclosure.
This is purpose built spec for military.
The 6x6 only exists because the ADF wanted one, which is now also being ordered by other armies like the Swiss.
Lots of Aussie jobs building the bodies (Varley in Newcastle) and trailers (Haulmark, Qld)
There is a pile of the 6 wheelers sitting over the back fence from work (Mulgrave VIC).
Not sure what they are doing there but I guess part of the local fit-out.
