Aussie sales of Windows Phone double as Android sinks - Mobility - Technology - News - CRN Australia

Windows Phone's share of Australian smartphone sales has doubled in the past year, while Android has slumped.

According to the latest figures from Kantar WorldPanel, Windows increased its sales share from 4.6 percent in the three months to September 2012 to 9.3 percent in the most recent quarter.

This rise of 4.7 points more than doubles the share of sales and represents good news for Microsoft, which has battled to remain relevant against market leaders Android and Apple.

    BlackBerry shock: Aussie sales triple

Only region to see upturn as global sales shrink.

BlackBerry's sales share has increased in Australia – the only region of nine audited by Kantar WorldPanel where sales didn't fall.

According to the Kantar WorldPanel figures for the three months to September 2013, sales of BlackBerry more than tripled in Australia.

However, the beleaguered Canadian device maker's numbers were still tiny in comparison to market leaders Android and Apple.

The figures showed BlackBerry sales increased by 0.9 points, from 0.4 percent sales share in the quarter ended September 2012 to 1.3 percent in the most recent quarter.

The numbers pale in comparison to iOS, which rose from 25.9 percent to 32.9 percent and Android, which fell from 66.1 percent to 55.3 percent.

I am over Android and my next tablet/laptop will be windows. Finding that the problem with Optus webmail that I had overseas was in the supplied program was one thing that really infuriated me.

I still like Iphone and that is good seeing I get my son's discards.

Another alternative for those who are turning off Android... or, more likely, manufacturer bloatware piled on top of Android:

The 2 sons both have Nokia Windows phones and there is a lot to like about them. But, the App store is dismal and they miss the free instant messaging between iphones with their girlfriends. They would be back in the icamp if Apple had a phone with a decent size screen.
Windows has missed by putting tablets out with a different version of OS than their phone. A big plus for Apple and Android is to buy apps that will run on their tablets and phones. Personal computers are going by the wayside. I even had a 97 year old lady ask me to donate her laptop to bush fire victims because she no longer uses it at all....she is glued to her ipad.
