    Question Inner body-panel storage compartments???

Looking at a Defender on Gumtree, and noticed it has a small storage compartment in the rear LH quarter. Similar idea to the Perentie 110's.

Was this sort of thing an option at one point in time, or is it a custom/aftermarket mod?

Any links to such a thing?

I can tell you that the Series 2/2A & 3 109's, all had twin storage boxes inside behind the rear wheels. My 1984 County S/W has 1 only on the LHS, entry to all is from the inside of the vehicle, by lifting a release catch and remove the lid.
I had side entry opening like the one pictured on my S2A 109 in the late 70's, mine were lockable with keyed alike projection locks and a piano hinge for the opening panel, I would suggest that the owner has most likely done this job, ?? for long distance travel and using the available storage space without the need to unpack part of the vehicle to get at something located in that area, cheers Dennis
ps I do not have any images of my old S2A with this conversion done, I also did something similar with my son's S3 Stage 1 Isuzu about 14 years ago, buy cutting out the panel behind the LHS door and fitting the bits off an Ex - Army S3 109 battery box etc,,. just means marking it out accurately and cutting it out.

One Tens had a locker there from factory, but accessed from inside.
There are some aftermarket versions around, caravan/motorhome accessory companies have the doors and an LR aftermarket company has the door+internal bits, but I can't recall which company...
It'd be so much more useful if the access was through the side instead of under my fridge!

It's a great idea, but if you want to have a fuel tank and water storage tank in your quarter panels you're kind of limited

Well that is a good idea and would work for me. Might have a little look see at my ute. Have a door behind the drivers door for battery access, so one more would not matter much.

Is that your excuse for drinking all of the beer?

I think Mulgo does an aftermarket version that looks larger than that one.

LOL - pretty sure I have a picture of that trucks hatch on my phone from a couple of months ago - spotted it out and about and was considering fitting a hatch myself (but on the drivers side - already got a water tank on the passengers).

Ended up deciding to fit an air tank there instead.
