G'day Robert
i am about to walk down a similar path. i should get my hands on a 1996 or 1997 disco tdi this week. I just have to choose between the two.
I couldnt do the v8 after thinking a lot about the fuel costs. From memory LPG conversion run at about $2500 depending where you go.
cheers
Mick

We had a 95 v8i which is what sealed the current 97Tdi!!!! 8)
We were filling the thing every second day
( wife was working in the city) about 80klm round trip per day, I looked at the cost of the conversion and spoke to fellow Disco owner who have had the conversion done, and decided to buy the Tdi. Don't get me wrong the V8 was a nice car to drive but I wasn't interested at the time in converting and losing any space in the rear. My current Disco we only fill once a fortnight ( Has a long range tank), the conversion to the timing belt has been done ( only found that out after paying local Mechanic to check as the tell tale Yellow marks were not there!!!!!!!!
It's a personal thing if you are cashed up and think yep that's what I want then do it!!!

As for the yellow low fuel light, generally an approximation is an absolute max. of 10L left but very dependent on any slope.
As for gas, people I've talked to have accepted quiet significant power decrease with LPG.

It's a gassssssss.....
Talk to AG Autogas Lilydale - 9735 3559. Talk to Brett. We've had 3 vehicles (2 RR and a work van) coverted by AG. Not cheap, but good and the backup service is excellent.
Cheers,
Pierre

thanks guy will give the guys in lillydale a call
i worked out ate the cost of fuel v gas conversion
that i would have to fill up about 200 + times to break even
so if we do 400kms per week 1 tank
then it will take me 3 to 4 years to just pay it off little own save some money . :?

Your sums are very conservative.
If you do 400 km per week, V8 auto would use about 85 l petrol. At about $0.90/l, cost say $75. Probably use about 100 l gas. At about $0.40, cost say $40.
Difference per week $35. Say installation costs $3K (it should be much less), then cost amortized over 85 weeks, about 19 months. Perhaps look for a secondhand unit. Try AMV in Ringwood, 9870 9904, talk to Stephen.
