Its A Bark...........

Now I know this might seem a tad trivial , but its just been getting on my goat a bit.....

Underground car parks and the height restrictions...

Whats the situation for example if the bar on the entrance specifies 2 metres max and you end up scraping the top?...even though you know you are well under the max?.

Im just a tad fed up with having to slam the Landy in reverse when it appears that one of these sodding entrance bars looks like its going to turn the motor into a cabriolet.

Is there any legal ground we have if these things do any damage to the motor as it is in-correctly signed?.

Apologies for the rant...............

I've thought about that a couple of times with grover, although in Grover chances are i'll be turned into a convertible (partly because grover already is).

However in my frequent dreams of owning a defender, I was pretty much resigned to watching the height, and grover has me in the habit anyway.

But on the legal aspect, if you really wanted to push the issue, you ought to win, as in essense I would have thought that it was on par with false advertising.

I had a trick for this. I used to have an old 27meg arial on my bullbar not wired up to anything but cut one inch higher than the roof line on the landy. If it hits you can back out without paint nastys.

Its probably on my list of gripes this height issue and car parks...but I wont dwell on it....and yep...if its one thing the Defender does it makes you very height aware.

Suffice to say theres a lot of places we dont go to purely because the signage is pure fiction...

Perhaps in a few years time if the Landy needs some bodywork done on it , I will plough right through the 'max height' bars and sue the living arse off the landlord.....

Hehehe...you wanna see the trouble that Sydneysider drivers can cause when your trying to reverse out of a one way car park that backs onto a main road and theres some plank in a Honda sat behind you , made me think about purchasing a back end heavy duty bull bar....

Will give the aerial thing a whirl though , will save some aggro..

People, people, PLEASE...........
(never say sorry for a rant!)

I WILL 2nd and even 3rd all that's been said!!!

Not right, Not Fair, not...not...not.... :x

And Yes, from a legal aspect you WOULD win a case to have your car repaired (eg: if you aerial snapped, roof rack damaged etc etc)
If you are under the limit stated at the entrance of ANY carpark and the roof causes damage....guess what?? - You would win a case! Why....because.....
*it is said to be mis-leading and the car park owners have that....(love this term) DUTY OF CARE to all patrons frequenting their car park!!
(love that duty of care cr*p - esp when it is in your favour!)

Anyways, another of my 2 cents worth (feeling poorer by the week)

Good Luck
(and dont try to tackle the very bottom leve-left section of the Chatswood Chase car park - WELL UNDER what the sign says....trust me!) ouch! :?

Duty of care is good if it is in your favor, however being on the other end can be hard work, ie making sure you do everything to fulfill you duty of care (in my case 12.3 to 20 year old cadets).

Just out of interest how high is a defender roof line...?

Disco1 claims to be 1958mm with roof bars, minus suspension sag.....so a 40mm lift will put me just over a 2m carpark......

note to self........don't forget the surfski is on the roof.......

I always found people tended to get the hell out of my way in the softop series 3. Guess that rear crossmember at eye level for a sedan does it.

After the lift, Í can't park for 2hrs free and shop in Chatswood (a major retail centre) anymore. I might add with the thule roof racks the Disco measures 2060 tall.

I'm in the construction industry as a project management consultant and on one of our projects after completion a Defender suffered some damage.

We are employing the services of a traffic consultant to verify the labelling of the height restriction due to aspects such as the location of speed humps and other geometric variables. It can get quite complicated. Hence the need for a team of highly paid consultants before the team of even more highly paid legal advocates are invited to argue the toss.
