Where to find the correct oil...?

    Hello everyone,

I have recently purchased a new Defender and I am loving it, but not the dealer. I am trying to find the correct oil for the truck, but the dealer is being a real pain and not helping.

I know that a 2013 Defender needs Castrol C1 oil, which is designed for vehicles with a DPF. I have looked at numerous auto parts stores around Melbourne and I can not find any that carry C1.

Most of them carry Castrol Edge, which the dealer states is fine, but on the back of the bottle Castrol Edge states that "this oil not suitable for vehicles with DPF's". Then Land Rover said to use Magnatec. From my understanding Magnatec is a mineral oil...

Can anyone help me out. I am looking to get 7 liters of Castrol C1 so I can do my own oil change, instead of paying $400+ for the dealer to do a 20 minute job.

Are there any shops that sell it online?

    Thanks,
    Kevan

    Castrol EDGE
    Professional C1 5W-30

A low SAPS fully synthetic fuel efficient high performance engine oil.
It combines outstanding low temperature fluidity and high load protection. Low
SAPS helps emission control devices like DPF last longer ensuring better engine
    performance and fuel economy.
Why don't you ask Castrol Australia?
They are usually helpful. you may find they only supply is wholesale volumes.

Magnatec is not dinosaur oil either, its a semi-synthetic.

You can also go to most oil company websites and input your vehicle for a list of recommended lubricants.

    Penrite

I was at Autobarn yesterday. The guy was really helpful and tried his hardest to find an oil on his shelves that had the C1 rating. They had nothing. He then called Castrol and asked where to get it. They told him that only the dealers have Castrol Edge C1.

It can't be this difficult to find Castrol Edge C1 outside of using the dealer...

Today I called the dealer and asked if they would sell me oil. They said yes, but I would need to provide my own container. Then the price was $275 for 9 liters.... That seems high.

Does anyone with a 2.2 do their own service? I can't be the only one...

    Thanks
    Kevan

Before you get too far there seems to be some sort of shortage of oil filters as well if you have a late enough 2.2 with the screw on cartridge filter.

    Defender2 - View topic - 2.2 Spin-on oil filter...

I would be interested to know what oil you finally decide to use as I intend to service ours when it arrives. (at least between the 20k official services)

I actually purchased the oil filter from the dealer. They would easily sell me the filter, but the oil they did not want to help me with. The filter was $28. In my mind that was actually not bad. I am planning on doing an early motor service before the scheduled 10K service. The dealer wants $400+ for just an oil change. But they charge $500 for a complete service...

I just can't find any oil on the selves of auto parts stores that as the C1 rating. I know its out there, I just can't find it.

Does anyone know of a website or online company that sells and ships small quantities of oil?

I have never had such a hard time trying to find oil...

    Regards,
    K

you haven't mistaken "CI" for "C1" possibly?

maybe that's why no-one can find a C1 rated oil when they should be looking for a CI oil...
