    Random handbrake light

I’m hoping to dip my toe into the knowledge pool before I tackle this one even though fingers-crossed I think it should be a simple fix.

The handbrake light on my Perentie as of today now no longer works properly. The light generally now activates just as the ratchet engages, but then disappears as the handbrake is engaged fully. It occasionally comes back on just prior to full engagement, but then disappears on full engagement. It also sometimes comes on when the ignition is switched on if the handbrake is already engaged; at other times not. It should, and did, come on fully when the handbrake was engaged and stayed on till it was disengaged.

As the light still works and due it’s random pattern of working/not working, I guessing the problem may lie with the contact switch on the handbrake lever assembly or with the wiring for the switch.

I was wondering if someone may have had the same problem, and if based on my description of symptoms if the contact switch and/or it’s wiring was the problem in their case. Also I thought someone may be able to save me some time and point me in the direction of the switch; I’m guessing it lies beneath the slip-on rubber boot on the handbrake lever at the front of the seat-box, or inside the seat box itself.

    Any help/advice will be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Dave

G'day Dave, Yep it's under that rubber boot. The most common problems are what you have described and are mostly electrical contact related, usually earth . Check out the contact with a multimeter. If ok there check the contacts on the warning lights panel and the dash earths- they have a habit of coming loose, the black wires that is, that earth the instruments.
