Ok, the otehr week I did the oil in the diffs, and rather than running them low on oil I topped them up.
Why, because I couldn't get anything under the diff to undo the drain plug.
What do people use, and how do you do it?
Also, what do you do with the old oil?? Should I take it somewhere, or just dump it in the garbage (which i'm quite sure is very bad).

on the front diff the filler plug is a square head, and the socket head fits in the filler for the rear diff, but both have drains on the bottom that are one large slot.

That's a pain! :x If you can get them out it would be worth spending a few bucks to get later replacements that are the square drive style. You'd need to check, but the threads should be the same, Rover front diff & Salisbury rear. But you've gotta get 'em out first! :roll: I don't suppose you could grind the end flat on an old wood chisel or file and use that, with a small adjustable spanner on the flat to turn it?

I would use a large screwdriver, but the height above the ground is the problem.
I might have to go to the hardware store and see if there is something that I can easily modify to do the job :?

fits into the slot just nicely...
