    Passenger handles Defender 90

    The wife has been after me to fit some grab handles so she can get in and out easier and have something to hold onto. I picked these genuine Landrover handles up a while back on Ebay and finally got around to fitting them. The one on the A pillar (Windscreen) uses the same screw holes that hold the trim on however I enlarged the holes slightly and fitted a bigger self tapper. After a good peak under the trim to see what was there to attach to I mounted the next handle centrally in the door opening. I drilled first and used 2 screws around 50 mill long to attaché this one. Make sure the rubber door seal is in the correct position or you will to loosen it all off to get it back on. It was pretty easy to do so I dont know why the don't fit them from new.

    Brilliant work! I'd be a bit worried about the a-pillar attachment. There's not a lot to grab onto there. I was thinking of a possible through bolt with a touch of silicon.

    Keep us posted on how they do...

    Cast alloy

    I was surprised to find it was cast alloy around the screen. I drilled it out another half mil wider and a few mil deeper and fitted slightly larger self tappers. The handles are flat at the base and the trim around the screen is slightly curved so I filled in the small gap with black silicone. I'm 120 kg at the moment I swung off it a few times trying it out and it hasn't moved. I fitted some quick fist rubber thingys today to hold my shovel and axe . The man is coming tomorrow morning to fit my Autron Cruise control just in time before we head off.

    Cruise control

    The man from Delphi came this morning and fitted my Autron cruise control it works well. I went for the stick control rather than a stick on switch on the dash . I was surprised to see that there is a blank in the plastic steering column surround and a hole in the metal bracket behind this for a stick to be fitted. They are not difficult to fit although the dash etc doesn't come apart as easily as a jap car. It looks like original equipment fitted quite sturdy, I will just have to warn any other drivers its not the headlight flasher ( don't pull on it) . Should make my trip East a bit more comfortable and economical.

    I've been thinking about this for a while now. I do a few HWY miles, and it would be nice to relax a bit during the long hauls.
    As an aside, how does it handle when the revs start to go down? I'm assuming its a manual. With the old auto's, I know it used to just turn itself off when it needed to go down two gears,,, but its all easy with auto, and a V8 . So how does it all work with a manual. The six speeds got good pull, but I still find gears need changing down occasionally, so does this unit just turn itself off, so to speak?

    I see you haven't relocated the roof rack bracket to the correct location yet. The middle struts are supposed to be forward of the moon windows. Although it's not the centre of the roof rack length, it is where the B Pillar supports the weight.

    The pics of the handles seem to be tiny as opposed to clickable thumbnails?

    My missus would loe handles like these, I'll have to put some into the Tdi 130, and I assume the mounting would be identical BUT I'll check anyway...

    Any chance of some bigger pics at all?

    After 2000 ks from Perth to Ceduna I'm in Cedunda now . I am very happy with the Cruise control my right foot is even happier . At highway speeds in 6th gear resume from 80 ks to 110 is quick but not neck breaking like my SS ute used to be. Haven't needed to change down at all on the hwy. in windy hilly stuff you font want cruise on anyway .
