    TD5 Chip upgrade

Just had the ECU reprogrammed in the TD5, done by JDMW via JRT in W.A., what a difference! she pulls like a train. I can't believe a 2.5litre can push a 2 ton brick so well.
JRT will put it on the dyno as soon as time permits and it will be interesting to see what the difference is.

Yes Richard they do go well. You would never go back would you? I also have an intercooler upgrade on mine and just love rounding up 3 litre Patrols in the hills.

Sure makes an Extreme fun to drive.

She's an auto- The only way to 4wd, much more control.
Cost $730 plus Johnneys bit and was a reprogram of the original chip.

No I wouldn't go back. I guess the advantage of the auto is that it had the extra power to start with.

I'm curious on the intercooler upgrade, did it make much difference and what did it comprise?

    Guess what ??
They are only doing them for Discovery's and have 'no intention' of a Td5 Defender release !! ( different fuel mapping and timing etc. ) .
    Very disappointed !!
Looks like I may have to go for the 'Davis' alternative afterall .
Graeme Cooper ( me-mate ) is looking into it for me in the meantime .

Any further info on the new chip Kev??

Link maybe or at least a contact number

Tracker, mine is a manual, cost about $800 and was a changeover computure module, ie they send you one and you send yours back. (I'm 2000 k's from Sydney) But you need access to Autologic to read the serial code for the injectors and need to adjust boost slightly. If you drive it normally my fuel use has not altered to pre chip upgrade.

Kev is that because Ditronic only do a module for Auto Disco's. If thats the case I can understand why its not suitable for a Defender. The manual disco does have different drive gearing to a Defender but you would wonder why if they do a module for manual 's why its not suitable for a Defender. Pity it would be good to get someones experience with Ditronic.

Richard the intercooler upgrade is a same size unit but with a much more efficient core. I got it through Mike alias "Tomb Raider' from SA who had a couple made up. I live in the hot tropics so a more effecient intercooler probably makes up for you blokes who drive around in cooler climates. You can especially notice the difference driving at night where the power just comes on so evenly. I think it has probably aided low down torque also.
