Defender Rear Window Lockable "Flap" Conversions

    Gday

I guess this is more for the South African members on the forum here. I'm currently in Capetown for another 10 days or so. I've noticed that quite a few of the Defenders over here have those lockable rear window flaps (I did find them on the net once before but can't remember where)

I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a supplier in Capetown who may be open for the Christmas/New Year break?

I fly out on the 2nd and would like to price myself up a set and freight them home; if it works out to be considerably cheaper than getting them in Oz

    Thanks

I think your talking about gullwings? The solid alu ones are made in SA if memory serves - Dolium sell them in Australia (possibly a rebranded Front Runner product?).

Can't help with a point of sale in SA though.

Alternatively (as per the above) Mulgo in Aus sells a glass version which are a very nice product - I have them myself.

Those are the ones Mulgo sells -they're one of the best things I ever did to my truck, I would fit them again without hesitation.

Front Runner are the South African manufacturer, so maybe look them up. They would be cheaper but depending on how you are intending to freight back.
Dolium in WA supply them as do Mulgo in Australia.
I have them fitted in my 110 with a shelf on the drivers side.
There are some pics in my albums I think.

    Thanks for all the replies

At the current exchange rate it seems worth while, if I can get a decent deal on freight

Unfortunately Front Runner is based is Johannesburg but they have a distributor in Capetown; R&D Offroad. I'll give them a ring in the next couple of days

    Thanks again

Contact Luke from Complete Sliding Windows in Clarence Gardens, South Aust.

They make beautiful hand made windows and opening 'hoppers' to fit Defenders. I've just bought 6 of their windows for another project. See here for some details: Windows are going in

They don't have a web page. Father & son business and not to up to date with the internet.

I can't remember how much the LR side doors were, but I'm thinking they were around $350.... maybe $400. I can find out from my invoice if you need to know.

    Hello,

Looking at these pictures they look to be the manufacturer of the windows I bought for my Defender from outbackgearforyou.com.au. Who as a side note were brilliant, shipped them to the UK with no problems and kept me informed every step. I would recommend them

The quality is superb, and if you want a gull wing style with a window fitted these are a great choice. I will be fitting them the coming days, Even living in the UK it was an easy decision over the front runner windows.

This video helped me with my choice Land Rover Defender Gullwing Door Upgrade - YouTube

I had a PM enquiring about the cost of the small "Defender sized" gullwing windows, so I thought I'd post it up here too.

I just looked up my invoice, and it is not especially detailed. My rear gull-wing window was made up of 3 items:
    - Gullwing Window
    - Amplimesh flywire netting on hinges + magnetic catch system
    - Internal molding to fit 45mm wall thickness
    Cost: $470 incl GST

You will only need the first part of this, so I'd be guessing that the window on its own would be around $400.

See 2 photos of it being fitted at the end of this blog:

And a general view of the windows here:
    Windows are going in

    Cheers
    David
