    Pix at last

Finally got around to a couple of pictures:

    That's Kev's vehicle too!

That was a *very* steep and *very* loose uphill. I'm actually on much the flatter part of it! Having got up and over unfortunately the ruts forced me sideways, and I had to give up at that point. Was winched the rest. I did get further than a petrol and a diesel Patrol, both of went quicker than I did and made loud banging noises as they went up and hit the start of the hill.

Overall very pleased with the car. A few mods to do. Need to continue building the rear shelf system. I now have a revcounter, need to fit that. Is that difficult? I think the hardest thing will be working out where to plug it into the ECU and running the wire to the engine system. But overall very pleased. Fuel consumption is high when cruising at 110km though. And how about this for a comment "Robert, your Defender has really good dust sealing, it still looks new inside" after 2 days of very dusty convoy driving! You're not meant to say that about Landrovers, it was a new club member though, maybe he hadn't read the memo!

We also did a "slow race" between a Patrol 3.0 tdi manual, a Patrol 3.0tdi auto, and the Defender. This consisted of seeing who could get down a hill the slowest without using brakes. The auto Patrol fell down the hill. The manual Patrol went down fairly slowly. But probably three times as quick as the Defender! I have a video, I'll put a copy of the web shortly.

Articulation. A new experience for me, being an ex-Pajero driver.

Yes, I am. The approach/depature angles are fantastic. The suspension is good, although under-damped. There was also a particuarly steep and rocky hill which I didn't quite make, but got further than a Troopy with muddies, an 80 and a Patrol. ABS didn't cause me a problem, and nor did traction control. As long as the engine is on boost it'll do anything.

The hill in the photo isn't ideal Defender territory; it's best suited to a powerful petrol 4WD with mud tyres. Such as a petrol Patrol. But the Defender still managed it. The previous day a Patrol and an 100 Series had got up it, but I think they'd created such a mess I just slid sideways.

    Very nice.
Good to see you are enjoying your self
There are two types of people in this world, good and bad. The good sleep better, but the bad seem to enjoy the waking hours
