I'm also after a decent hydraulic bottle jack to replace the crappy 'wind up' cylinder type jack that came in my Defender.
Anyone have any advice for us ?
I have bought 4tonns bootle jack. I was working few hours only. Auto One gave me back my cash, but I need bootle jack
Is this possible to buy some reliable one (not made in China !) ?

How about the local Landrover wreckers? Discos come with a bottle jack that (presumably) isn't made in China. Get one out of a wreck and you'll have the authentic thing. 8)

Wreckers or have a look around the swap meets.
Try and find one of the old tuff ones that can have the seals and oil replaced rather than a sealed unit.

Hi
Instead of,actually as well as a jack, I carry a small barby plate, trolley jack(they dont work on dirt) and a block of wood, real easy to use, takes up a bit more space/weight.

Yeah I use a Trolley Jack and hard plate as well. Its got a 2500kg rating, and raises up to 500mm.
I've just found that I end up having to put about a foot high of wood blocks under the landrover with the bottle jack on top to even come close to getting it under the chassis! Civilian Landrovers don't have to sweat is quite as much thankfully.
My next investment will be an exhaust jack, cause I've been caught out in the past where no jack will fit under the 4X4 cause she is sitting flatbed on sand. I'll write up the story in the appropriate forum soon.
Cul.
Call me naieve, but isn't the jack supposed to go under the sispension leaves on a series landy (ie, directly under the axle) ???
Not always practical I know, but it is sure closer to the ground.

Phoenix - refering to my story about having my back axle completely submerged in sand.... where else am I going to put the jack?
Yes it is attributed to the circumstances about positioning, but every time I have ever needed it... the chassis at the front has been used just behind the front springs, and in the back - there really isn't anywhere to put it to be honest, as the chassis as you know rises up away from the axle.
Thats why I like the concept of the exhaust jack as well in digging enough space to slide the bag underneath to just give you that little bit more lift to get a standard jack in there to do the work.
Gets down to trial and error a lot of the time in my adventures
