They do fail from time to time. The clutch losses travel and won't disengage as the damper absorbs the fuild movement from the master cylinder. You do need them on a TDI or the pedal pulses with out them. V8 cars don't have them. The other main point of failure of a TDI clutch is the fork, these are pressed metal and they crack where they pivot on the ball in bell-housing. The forks are about $60, clutch kit is about $350. Factory clutch is made by "valeo" but " borg and beck " are nicer to drive.

    Hey Charger

I put a post up ages ago in relation to Clutch kits - the 200TDI clutch is the same as the Valiant Charger clutch kit - and about $60 AU a MUCH better deal

Is it the same or does the Val just fit? Falcon clutches fit Jags and Feraris but they aren't the same. As long as the clamp pressure is the same it won't slip but the driven plate springs and construction may be different. TDIs are know for shaking the crap out of driven plates. As well as different clamp some pressure plates are cast iron and some are forged to cope with high load / revs not that revs are a problem with TDI's. Have tried one and if so hows it going? I don't mind paying for something if it works properly.

Mate - what I know is this :

A mate of mine owns and runs a Landrover workshop. he has checked it out and found that it is correct fitment for the vehicle. That is all i can say,
when my time comes to fit one (touch wood) I will be fitting one.

I trust him, but as with any posts individuals need to do their homework first -you may be surprised.

This mate of mine BTW races a disco off road - its what he runs in that too.

    Regards

Hmm interesting, I did a search last night and found a few threads, the problem isn't as bad from what I can gather as the Timing Belt issue?
But it's interesting to know the quirks our vehicle's may have :?
