Eliminate Common Rail Diesel Injector Rattles

The CRD injector rattle can sound like noisy valve tappets, or a rapid machine gun type rattle. Initially, it occurs mostly with a cold engine under acceleration up to around 2000 rpm's. If left unattended for long enough, it can be severe and very destructive.

Typically the problem is caused by over-fuelling, so the noise is actually detonation, which if allowed to get bad enough will actually melt pistons, and totally destroy engines.

CRD injectors need to respond instantaneously to the ECU signals, which may require up to 5 or more separate injections per firing cycle. So why does the rattle develop? Basically 2 things can cause it...

 1. Deposits forming inside the injector (also pumps). This can be from small amounts of contaminant in the fuel, but contaminants can also form due to the high pressure and temperature the fuel is subjected to inside CRD pumps and injectors. Due to the high fuel return rates (to cool the pump and injectors), the diesel is continually reprocessed and returned to the tank, and this heat and pressure can cause the fuel to degrade, and leave deposits.

 2. Diesel fuel needs to provide the necessary lubrication for the highly stressed CRD pumps and injectors. If lubrication is marginal, injectors will respond poorly, stick open too long & over-fuel. Degraded diesel also losses lubricity.

There's wide held views that Australian diesel is not up to European and North American standards, and is part of the problem.

The two main suppliers of CRD injection systems are Bosch and Denso, so these injector rattle problems can and do occur in most makes of vehicles. There are also plenty of warranty battles with major manufacturers, some of whom totally wipe their hands of the problem, saying it is a customer expense, and blaming bad fuel.

After two years of development and field testing, Cost Effective Maintenance introduced their CRD Fuel Enhancer, and after 12 months commercial use, it has proven its ability to reduce and eliminate these rattle problems, saving customers expensive replacement of injectors and pumps, while restoring fuel economy.

CRD Fuel Enhancer restores fuel system cleanliness, provides a large increase in diesel lubricity, as well as internal corrosion and anti-rust protection. A mere 10mL of CRD Fuel Enhancer treats 80L of diesel, and is recommended for continual use. The 250mL Bottle lasts for 2000L of diesel and costs $54 (Free delivery Australia wide).
