Hi Discowhite
Series gearboxes/transfercases are noisey and can leak oil.The 202 is hard on landy gearboxes,so a rebuild could be on the cards. There are many landys with the holden conversion, you just need to be "gentle" in applying the right boot especially in low range.
The rear diff conversion is good, the Ser3 has the sailsbury diff as used in the Defender/Disco.Standard 2a rear axles are easy to snap, the front diffs are all the same(rover type)
As long as the Landy isnt too expensive(2 to 3 grand) and reasonable condition and your bro is handy with tools tell him to give it a go,1 more landy nut in the world cant be a bad thing!!!!
Goodluck

I have to agree with what LandyAndy said, but if you want more general things to watch out for have a look here http://members.ozemail.com.au/~mikeleys/2buy.html

Some very good advice and points to watch.

You have the same problem with your missus too hey??

Should start a technical page on how to fix your missus - in regards to landrovers.... very worthwhile!
I'm still trying to convince my girlfriend why I need three landrovers... if only she knew what she was missing out on!

I like to refer to it as "my addiction".... I don't smoke or drink or do drugs.... I collect Ex-Army Landrovers! God help me.....

Cheers,
Cul

 it seems to be a common problem with landy owners , especially series owners , that wives/girlfriends just dont seem to on the same wavelength as us guys when it comes to landy's , am having similar probs at the moment trying to convince SWMBO that to get another landy for spares would be a GOOD thing!!!,just gotta get rid of the two cortina's , two corrolla's , one taranogo, and an xb panelvan cut down to a paddock ute! then maybe just maybe i can get another landy, now where was that phone number for that body removalist (for the cars stupid!! )
