    Series 1 Chassis number means... what?

    8O Any brains-trusts out there with a Series 1 book to help me with a quick question?

    1. When was this chassis produced: number 862994

    2. What engine (cc) was in it: number 862815

    3. Definitely a 80" chassis? Or not?

    Pics of said unit show it as a regular canvas top Landy. Is it 1948, 49, or 50?

    Why do I want to know?

    I found it in the Army's B.B.B.. It is the first ever Aust Mil Landy.
    They list it as a 1949 model and thats all they say about it.

    G'day Carzee,

    try this site: http://www.lrfaq.org/FAQ.3.Chassis_Numbers.html

    from there:

    Synopsis of Chassis/Serial Numbering Scheme
    1948 - 1949
    Prefixed by an L or R indicating left or right-hand drive, were six or seven digits.
    The first digit indicated the year:
    8 = 1948-49
    The second digit indicates the type:
    6 = Land Rover
    The third digit (applicable only to seven digit numbers) indicates the model type:
    6 = Basic
    7 = Station Wagon
    8 = Welder
    With the exception of the 866 series, whose serial numbers started at 3001, the last four digits show the serial number starting at 0001.

    Hope this helps some
