Chequerplate on Deefer - worth it?

Im thinking of putting chequerplate wingtop guards on my 110, as the wingtops themselves are so dented its not funny(years of dad leaning on them to work on the ute). My question is, has anyone done this and found that it causes any problems down the track? Cheers guys

I have had 3mm chequerplate on top of my guards for approx 4 years and no issue. Cant see how there could be any long term issues.

3mm is probably a bit of an overkill, 2mm would probably do the job good enough

I used a gasket, marine carpet in my case but not sure if thats best but its what I had laying about. Any thin 2-3mm foam would do the trick of avoiding rub & contact between the body and the plate. Clean the surfaces before placing them down.

Rivets of the appropriate size look cleaner and sit flat and are better suited to the task than screws.

I chose to use marine sikaflex to seal the outsides of the plate to avoid water ingress which would bring with it grit and crap and cleaned it up a bit with soap water so it looks neat(ish).

Only thing I found is the insides of the plate rubs on the inside lip of the bonnet a tad where it sits on the fender, causing wear.

I made templates out of cardboard, took to an ally supply place who cut it. A lot cheaper than LR ones. Used sikaflex and rivets. Did 300K over 13 years and no probs. Great to be able to stand on also to work on the engine can drop the bonnet off and sit/kneel etc without dents. I also reinforced my bonnet for a second spare with 4mm ally diamond plate on top and 2mm on the frame underneath too. see pic

Go 3mm rather then 2mm as I find my 2mm still flex under my weight...only 80kgs!

Imo it is worth it, and I consider them to be permanent now. No issues, just that I know they are covering plenty of dents

I also made my own. I cut it out to cover the top of the guard completely. I will be trimming it back to the edge of the bonnet as the bonnet is rubbing. Also I want to fit a rubber strip along the underside edge of the bonnet to help contain the noise.

Go 5mm plate if you reallty want to ensure your car looks sufficiently butch .

I used what looks like 1.6mm (not incl raised tread) for wing tops. I regularly walk in it to get to the roof rack. I'm 100kg and never noticed any movement. Although the county front guards have a brace under the skin behind the light that may be left off for later models.
