Extreme Heat and Discovery Performance

Hi I thought I would check and see how the cars are handling the heat.
My D4 has been fine although have not really put it under load, but have done quite a few highway k's in the heat with no problems.
The AC has worked a treat, my Defender was an oven on wheels in these climatic conditions.
Looking forward to the cool change.

First day of our trip across to Tassie from Perth was 42-43 all day. Sat on 100kph with 1.5 tonne behind, and car loaded....maintained 25 all day inside without raising a sweat.

Same with me. Through Fitzroy Crossing etc in the Kimberley the car was showing 45. Towing an 1800kg camper with everything fully loaded no change in radiator temp and A/C perfect. The only thing I have noticed is that occasionally the radiator fan starts spinning continuously, which increases the noise slightly. This is only around town though, like last weekend when it was 48.9 on my thermometer on the back wall of the house and 45 in the coolest spot in my yard, which is pretty close to the Perth Airport Weather station readings most of the time.

On the highways, the constant flow of air through the radiator would be no issues for the cooling system even if the ambient air temperatures are very high. The force of air going through the radiator is great enough that the radiator fans don't even need to be working, when driving at highway speeds.

It's in stop start traffic that the cooling system really has it's work cut out as the airflow is limited to what the radiator fans can pull through the radiator.

But it's good to know that the a/c can maintain a pleasant 25 deg inside when it's over 40 deg outside!

I regularly drive to NW QLD with the D3 loaded up & a couple of Ton of trailer on the back, I have a Scan gauge 2 installed so can keep a close eye on the actual temps being reported.
With the car showing outside temps above 45 & the A/C blasting away on reasonably flat roads at 110kph the Scan Gauge reports temps sitting in the mid 90's.
Under the same conditions but in hilly areas it goes up to high 90's to 100, only once has it exceeded 100, on the down hills it quickly drops back to the low 90's.
Without the trailer & with high 30's outside the car generally runs about 88 - 92.
Even with this variance of Scan Gauge reported Temps I have never seen the cars Temp gauge move a millimetre from normal.

Good to hear the D3/D4's are handling the heat well.I remember when I bought my landy my friends with Jap cars all told me english cars are unreliable can't handle the heat etc.
Can't wait for the cool change, too hot and dangerous (fire hazard) to go bush.

Ummm, Don't know. I haven't tried.
It does give a lot of standard gauges of which it will display 4 at a time, you then have the option of programing special gauges which I have not done.
I have mine set to display Engine Temp, Volts, litres per 100k & air intake temp.
Because they are the 1's I find important.

in Wagga, temp is around 42 degrees. The extra fans are on most of the time adding to the noise, but it hasn't missed a beat. With rear air, it cools down in no time at all, and in fact gets a little cold for me
