    Puma clutch failure

My 2012 Puma 110 (2.2) has just done 40,000 kms. All good.
While town driving recently,I depressed the clutch to select 2nd, there was a bang, the pedal went to the floor. There was a high frequency grinding from underneath and no further propulsion.
It went to the local (100 kms away) LR Doctor on a flatbed.
LR mechanic reported that the centre splines on the clutch plate had stripped out. He claimed that he had never seen anything like it before. There was no other damage.
All fixed now (under warranty with no problems). New clutch.
The car has not been thrashed. I have never had a clutch fail in nearly 50 years of driving.
It has shaken my trust in the beast.
Has anyone had the same happen to their Defender, or was I just the lucky one?

MY09 100k no clutch issues, plenty of towing too.

I call random manufacturing fault - unlucky mate!

I had the same thing at 60k my12. It was the clutch flywheel though and took out the clutch, gearbox.
