headlight servo??

This is the Drivers side headlight of the 130. I suspect this is a type of servo motor that adjusts the headlights. It is connected to what looks to be an aftermarket lead but I cannot confirm this. The passenger side headlight does not have one but the same lead is sitting in the wings ready to be plugged in should it ever of had one. The gasket around the headlight on the passenger side would suggest it never has had a servo.

How did I do? Is this a correct assumption? Where is the controller and what does it look like?

Wiring is a nightmare on this vehicle with wires cut in all over the shop and resistors on circuits. Being an ex Fire fighting vehicle it would of had a few Auxiliary items on it. Slowly clearing it all and working through it.

yes, these are the headlamp levelling motors. the defender only had them in aust after 2003 iirc, and even then i haven't seen all of them with it fitted.

Thanks Justin. This is a 2000 model but the drivers headlight has just been replaced. Can I assume that they were all prewired like this and the panel beater just plugged it in? Perhaps it was optioned like this as a firefighting appliance? Is it likely to work automatically or is there a switch or dial usually for this set up?

the wiring is there for all td5 defenders, even in uk late 300tdi had them, too.

the possibility is as you suggest maybe someone ordered a lamp and cradle assembly and ended up with that .

the controller is actually the switch itself, all the relevant wiring / plug could even be somewhere behind the binnacle?

There does seem to be an abundance of spare plugs so it is quiet likely. Probably not worth the pain and anger as I can't see it being really useful, especially as I need to buy another servo and a switch.
