    REVS TO HIGH ON STARTING

G'day...... Could someone tell me what controls how much the motor revs to on start-up. Problem is it revs out to 2000rpm for the first 10 seconds then it cuts itself back 800 rpm, every time I start it. If I can simply turn some adjustment screw to cut it back, that would be too easy I think on a disco V8 .
If someone could advice me please if I can adjust it?
You would save me getting shouted at in the early morning start-ups.

    Thanks again..... Shepherd

Almost certainly the Idle Air Control stepper on the rear of the plenum.
It gets gunked up and sticky - just need to unplug, unscrew and clean.
Lots of posts about this on AULRO.
Only thing I don't know is how to lubricate it so it doesn't keep doing it every year or so.

    every year or so.
I think lubricating it would increase the problem.
The trick is to clean the "cone of silence" with carby cleaner and to get a cotton bud and clean the hole the cone fits in. DO NOT try to unwind the stepper or pour cleaner down it, as it is a little rack inside with and electric"stepper" motor that turns a collar that pushes and pulls the rack.
If after that and also checking that the stepper housing is tight and the vacuum hoses are in place it still does it, get a new stepper..

FYI the stepper winds right out every time you shut the engine down. that is why if it is lazy it revs high at first.

Mine started doing this last weekend after I had disconnected the battery, Is the Disco ECU smart enough to learn certain things and this info can be lost when battery is disconnected.???

Every day is a new day for a 14CUX.
