    My VIN

    Hi folks... just looking up what the characters in my VIN mean but it seems it doesn't quite line up with what it says in an online workshop manual I found...

    My VIN is SALLDCH572V84938b

    So from what I understand is;

    SAL = world manufacturer
    LD = Landrover Defender
    H/V/K = 110/90/130 (but I have a C here?)
    M/A/B/E/F/H = H for High Capacity Pickup sounds right
    8 = TD5 - but I have a 5 here?
    7 = RH drive
    Not sure what the rest means...

    Its a 2003 130.. can anyone enlighten me? The compliance plate does say "Country of Origin" - South Africa also... is that common?

    Interesting it says yours is a 2002 model, and yes South Africa is common. Are you sure the 8th number is correct? Are you reading off the windscreen plate, you are right is should 8. OK I have checked ours and we have a 5 also. and ours is definitely a Td5 so maybe the info is incorrect. The Clifton one is more correct.

    Fascinating. I have a 1995 130 Defender. At position 10 of my VIN I should have an M, but I have a T. What does that mean?
    Just looked up the Clifton, should have done that first, T is model year 1996 (I have a 1996 compliance plate and 1995 manufacture date).

    Just had another look at mine and it is dated 06/03 so yeah dunno why the VIN would say 2002.

    Is that 06/03 the compliance date or the build date? Don't forget that all three of those dates/years can be different.

    My understanding is that that model year is which year's 'equipment list', for want of a better term, that the vehicle belongs to. So if there are no updates or changes to a vehicle's spec from one year to the next, then it can still show the previous calendar year's model letter.

    It would be the compliance date, so 2002 is the build date Land Rover's years go from end August. Simular to a calendar year. My 1951 series 1 was sold 8/12/1950 in Tamworth
