    200TDI Cam Followers

    Hey all,

I'm in the process of reassembling my 200Tdi and was wondering if I need to replace the cam followers.

They look to be in great condition but I didn't mark which assy came out of where and which way around they were. The manual mentions that if they're being reused to mark them but is it critical?

    Thanks

Yes, because the followers will have "setaed themselves in" to the camshaft lobes, so if you say put them in the wrong slot or flip them 180 you'll just wear them more quickly. Depending upon that wear you may find you need to replace them "soonish", so you may as well bite the bullet and replace them now. You may also want to consider replacing the camshaft (and cam bearings and... well, where do you stop...).

They are roller followers so they would probably be more tolerant of being replaced in different locations.
If you fit new followers you should fit a new camshaft anyway.

I would just refit them with moly grease on the cams and see how it goes.
