    advice on spare parts

we are a family heading off for three months in a landrover defender 110 My 2011. with camper trailor . we are planning on eventually doing the Gibb river Rd, Tanami desert road and part of the Onadatta track towards the Flinders. can anyone advise us on the essential spare parts that we should take. Unfortunately defender wheels are not the same as trailer wheel. Thinking of carrying two spare tyres for defender and one spare for trailor. any suggestions.

The basics that would stop you in your tracks would be Alternator belt, top and bottom Rad hoses, Fuel filter, Air filter, some thing you may not be able to pick up in remote places.

Here is a post we did some time back - some of the photos have disappeared. I will take some more and update this post next time we travel and prepare the vehicle - in about 6 weeks.

    Vehicle spares and tools

Also. as you rightly say tyres have been our main issue over the years. I never have Alloys on a trailer, as when traveling on some of those roads, you are concentrating ahead and don't always pick up a trailer flat. You can usually belt a steel wheel back into shape and add a tube.

Be aware on how to change a tyre. Steel wheels are easy, alloys are difficult. Having said that, we always travel with Alloys on our Defender, and steels on our trailer

    G'day njtwood

I would suggest that you contact M.R.Autos in Qld,(Landrover specialists) as they do travel packs of spares for all models, and from memory have a buy back scheme where you only pay for spares used, they will also ship any parts required to repair a breakdown to any part of Australia

Person to speak with is Dwayne, but give him correct information as to Model,Year, and Engine type, also any modifications done

    cheers
