110 rivet things front roof

hi all found a leak in the roof of my 110 surprise surprise,
seems one of the rivet or weld things, that connect the aluminium roof to the roof frame, have let go or pulled through.
is this just a rivet fix any ideas appreciated cheers

Its probably one of the spot welds, so likely too big to put a rivet into.
Not sure what the best way to fix it is. I'd be tempted to just put some Sikaflex over the top to seal it up for a start.

I had the same thing happen to mine. Its the spot weld coming adrift. i just drilled the spot weld out with a 6mm drill. I fitted a collet over the drill bit about 5mm from the head so as not to drill though the roof lining and then put a dab of sikerflex over the hole. Then pop riveted in a pop rivet and then added and small amount of sikerflex over the top. Lastly, using a little turps on a rag I cleaned the excess 'goo' from the rivet and all done.
Its been that way for nearly 6 years and no problems.

Above the windscreen, or one of the side ones?

Anyone got any pics of the problem/solution - need to sort this on my rig too

yea its above the roof worked out the problem, if you remove the hood lining
in each corner of the roof near the windscreen, there is a coach screw in each side.
on mine on the right side as im looking out the from the drivers seat the coach screw has come out it is striped.
this this has allowed the roof cover (aluminium) to flex and eventually brake the weld.i will drill it out, and put a stainless nut and bolt or rivet with with a bead of sika under each end, need to learn how to post pics. cheers

Cheers, can I ask what kind of roof arrangements you have (rack, load, etc) and what type of use you've been putting your truck through before/after the repair?

Just trying to get a sense of whether this type of repair will do the job for my purposes!

I got a full length roof rack that spends 97% of its time empty and a car that spends 98% of its time on road. Unfortunately not by choice either.

I had the same problem some years ago.
You have to take the headlining out to get to the screws that hold the windscreen frame to the roof. From memory two each side, large self tappers that went into the windscreen frame.

I also had a spot weld tear out. I put some BluTac in it to stop the leak and many years later it's still there.

Just trying to get a sense of whether this type of repair will do the job for my purposes!

my defender is a 98 110, now has 355000ks up the last 50,000ks has been
spent towing a camper trailer, over a ton in weight plus work tools.
through the gulf of Carpentaria,northern territory down to mount isa,
all off road including black soil country, so gets a fair bit of use.
I run a full maxi drive conversion all round, stronger steering arm, bash plate,diff protectors, warne winch,3\4 roof rack that holds about 60kgs.
2 inch lift, just changed from wrangler muddies to the new Hercules muddies good tyres.upgraded intercooler,full set vdo gauges,snorkel,
other various bits and pieces starting to pop a few rivets so when the rain eases ill be starting a refurb hope this helps feel free to ask if you need any more info cheers
