washer bottle what don't I know?

Hello people,

The computer says my washer bottle is empty, so it should, there is no water in it.

When I try to fill it I only seem to be able to fill up the neck of the filler tube and nothing goes into the bottle, less than half a litre.

What am I missing, or does it need to come apart?

It sounds like the screen wash level sensor is playing up, mine kept giving the same washer empty fault on the dash on a regular basis, even though it was full.
I replaced the sensor and it has not happened since.
So there is actually fluid in your bottle, it's just the sensor giving a false empty reading, that's why you can only fill the neck part.
Not a hard job to replace, I've seen the sensors on ebay:

although I would be going for a new one if you want to replace it...otherwise you could always just disconnect the plug and leave it at that, which should get rid of the annoying error message.

Thanks Peter, you are quite right, turned out to be plenty of water, a pipe had popped off so nothing was getting to the windscreen,had the filler pipe off at lunch time, plenty of water.

If you are giving the system the once over take off the one way valves under the bonnet and pull apart, clean lube and refit. These glue up and can cause low pressure or complete blockage over time. Once all spick and span you will amazed at the pressure especially if you were a little lacking before

I had the same issue and finished up buying a second hand washer bottle complete, and just used the sensor from it. At least I have spare pumps now
