    Motorcyclist Dicing With Death

What a moron this bloke is. Thank goodness the cops got him.

As a side note you will hear the reporter say it is rush hour traffic. I wish Melbourne's peak traffic was like this.

    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

The traffic is probably doing 60-70 mph on that road. Normal urban freeway speed in the US. The slowcoaches here who hold up traffic and cause road rage would get run under over there. The motto seems to be "get going NOW or else". They reckon there is a unit of time called an LA microsecond which is the time between the light turning green and the horns starting to blow.

It's my understanding that in some American States, a person who drops below 'freeway' speed and causes any ripple in the flow...even to drop down to the official speed limit, will get fined.

The reasoning is... traffic travelling smooothly at a higher velocity is a lot safer than weaving around a slow car.

I agree the guy is a moron, but because he stole someones bike. Remember GoPro cameras have a curved lens and look faster than you really are going.
Try going over 100 kmh with a helmet top camera and see how long your neck takes it.

The best indication of the fact that he is not particularly bright is not so much that he rode dangerously or that he stole a bike, but the fact that he did those things then drew attention to himself by posting the video.

Surely if you had more than two brain cells to rub together, you would keep a low profile if you had done those other things.

I often used to wonder at the intelligence of the people who used to deliver drugs up or down the Lachlan Valley Way. On about three occasions, cars that crashed within a kilometre of my place were found to have stuff in the boot that should not have been there.

So if that motorcyclist is a moron for stealing a bike and riding like that, we need an even stronger term to describe the lack of intelligence that prompted him to post the video.

I assume you mean that they have a wide angle lens.

What you say is quite correct about how the wide angle lens exaggerates how quickly objects appear to approach the camera.

If you want to see a very effective use of that phenomenon and the opposite effect achieved with a telephoto lens, check out the car chase from "Bullitt", which remains one of the best car movie chases.

Over 100kph without a helmet? I was riding Nortons in WA in the 50's, long distance, Perth Geraldton/Bunbury/Augusta/Kal (NO speed limit on country roads then!) and NO helmets. Cant ever remember having a neck ache? (also 1 only go on a sidecar in the Mandurah Road Races WITH a helmet!)
