    Over windscreen shelf.

Guys I'm looking at a over windscreen shelf for my Defender to fit the stereo and UHF.
I've found a joint on the net that make one.
Of course it's miles over priced for a ply board covered in some marine carpet.

I am more than sure i can whip something up my self for a fraction of the cost.

Has anyone made one them self? I'm trying to work out where they would be fastened too.
The company I found on the net couldn't send me instruction on how to fit it as they don't have pictures of it.
Just written instruction but they are not clear enough.

If anyone has an over windscreen shelf please could you post me a pic.

Gday. I made one out of 3mm aluminium all folded in a press. It has a large lockable glove box and a pair of 6 inch speakers. I made it to slide above the door frame and fastened it with a few screws straight up through the frame. I can post some photos on weekend. Paul.

I thought of aluminium. That required some one to fold it. But now you have mentioned it, It would be stronger maybe lighter.
I would love to see some pics and your ideas. Did you cut your roof lining? I don't really want too.
I like the idea of the lockable section.

    Thanks
    Les

Made mine out of aluminium as well with a length of angle pop rivetted on, covered in some marine carpet with some trim around the edge - secured the same, screws up through the frame above the doors, next time it's out I'll probably put some nutserts in place.

And the roof lining is still in. Cool.
Doesn't look like you kept your visors?

Gday Les, I removed my roof lining completely and carpeted it. You will see when I post photos. Paul.
