    Strange gearbox fault

Car starts fine, after about 4 k`s gearbox fault light comes up, engine stops. Car wont start immediately. After a few minutes car starts fine no message and all good for rest of day, next day the same. Last 5 days the same, only 1st thing in the morning. This has me stumped.

Earth and battery! Have you got a strong battery? Are the leads connected properly? Earth points on the block, etc all good?

Just a first point of call when I see gearbox fault, especially when cold weather is involved! Also might be worth checking the alternator is putting out good current.

    Gearbox fault

    Howdy all

My 95 HSE did that occasionally until I exchanged the battery for a new one
Now the only message I get now is the washer bottle one . Good luck!

Newish High cca battery, all good, Alternator not that old but tested ok. Earths good.
This happens about the same spot every day, tried a different route to work and same thing at around the same distance. Once the car has died then re started again problem does not re appear. I am thinking it has something to do with the way the box changes shift pattern once hot. Will have to see if there are any logged codes that could shed light. Also thought fusebox, might swap mine over.

I was not using the car for a week so decided to disconnect the battery to give it a chance to clear any stored codes. Have been using the car this week and all good, seems to have sorted itself out perfectly.
One odd thing I have discovered, The 2001 car will not go into low range at first start, will after about 1 klm of driving. 1999 Thor goes into low as soon as you like. Anyone else with a very late car care to check theirs. I believe they could have a different program / software that is accessible with std OBD2 to read codes

Does disconnecting the battery eliminate stored codes? Interesting. Wonder if that would stop my abs light from coming on?

ABS light coming on may be a simple issue of one of the sensors not sitting correctly in the retaining bush?

As far as I am aware Thor cars should have a 150amp unit. Both of mine do
