    Sound proofing

Looking at sound proofing my tdi200 with dynamat so I will be able to hear myself think. Only problem is I have no front mats or carpet. I found TR649 | Carpet Set - Defender 4cyl with LT77 Gearbox (not 300TDI)
Seems to be a good price. I do have a fairly tight budget but wondering if anyone else has any ideas?

Your first post - welcome to the forum

I cut up some of the 1m square rubber backed carpet tiles you can buy at Bunnings to make mats and trans tunnel cover. Think they were about $20 each.

Just need to buy a couple at the same time as they seem to change the patterns regularly and if you go back a couple of weeks later to buy a second one to finish off you might find its different.

Thank you! been lurking for a while thought it was about time to post.
I do currently have a fairly large sheet of rubber from carpet underlay, I guess I could just use that for mats.

I installed a thermo mat from a building site that was using it under colourbond, on top of this I have the original rubber matting and then on top of this I have carpet. The difference in sound is zero and the difference in heat may be 50%.

That's not too exciting haha. Heat wasn't too much of a problem that noise. Bonus was I can't hear the young one in the back crying!

    Hi mate
Welcome. Try rare spares, they have a 12mm sticky back sheet that works a treat under the bonnet, read a story on lr monthly that said over 70% of cabin noise comes through the screen. They also have a 3mm bitumen sticky back sheet as well to put under the floor mats. I have done both and it has dropped the cabin noise significantly. I know the puma is a shed load quieter than a tdi but it worked a treat for me. I can mow have a decent conversation and dont have to turn the radio up to hear it.
    Cheers Ian

I did the retrofit of late-model lower door seals to the 130 a couple of weeks ago, it has made a dramatic difference to cabin noise.

Hi, I have been planning to upgrade the bottom door seals on our 130 also, if you don't mind about how much and where did you get the new type seals?
    Cheers, Andrew.

I got them from Britcar, £86.57 including shipping from UK (can't remember what that was in colonial money, somewhere around $180). Part numbers and prices pasted from my invoice:

    1 LR029307 DOOR LOWER SEAL RHR DEF 07> £11.88 £11.88
    1 LR029308 DOOR LOWER SEAL LHR DEF 07> £11.88 £11.88
    2 LR029309 DOOR WEATHERSTRIP LOWER FRONT DEF £24.83 £49.66
