2.4 puma oil

A good choice is Total Quartz 9000 Future NFC- Golden West lubricants will most likely ship to Exmouth if they dont have an agent there

Believe this is the stuff that my Mechanic uses. Also is recommended for the puma by the Penrite.

Be VERY VERY CAREFUL that any oil you use complies with the specifications given by Land Rover in your hand book.
Recently I had an engine change in our 2008 Puma courtesy of Land Rover.
The service history was checked with the dealer. There were two oil changes that were not done by the dealer and I needed receipts for the oil used to show that it was correct for the Puma. I had the invoice for the oil. It was Total Quartz 9000 Future NFC 5W-30 as recommended above so it was O.K.
The first thing I'd say about the oil you mention is that it's 5W-40. Land Rover specify 5w-30. If you needed to claim for engine damage and you said you used this oil you'd be on the wrong foot from the start as it is not the viscosity stated in your handbook.EVERYTHING needs to be correct for any claim should it arise to be entertained.
This is the specs for the Penrite oil listed by you
5L) A low-SAPs oil for Ford and Mazda petrol and diesel engines where Ford M2C934A is listed as well as light duty diesel engines requiring the Japanese JASO DL-1 specification
It DOES NOT meet the specs you require.

That does seem like some fine oil alright. I'd have no bother using that.

I'm using it as recommended by my mechanic, who's a independent LR specialist with good reputation in this forum.

I used the HPR 5/40 at the 30k service. It certainly appears to meet all the required specs but more importantly my old TD5 ran on Penrite for the last 250 thousand km that I owned it.

A friend bought her off me & recently dropped the sump pan to look at an oil weep. He said the engine was spotless inside & she's still going strong at over 300 thousand.

I do miss the old girl, and her new owner is now a disco convert.

I will post up any relevant news when I drop the oil in another 2k.
