    Expansion tank cap

Hi all I need some quick advise, just taken my 2010 defender on a trip, now I'm camped 200ks from carnarvon, just noticed today the expanshion tank cap is missing/gone now I can only think I left it off when I checked the coolant in Perth, the car never went above half way on the temp gauge, I'll have to get one sent from Perth to carnarvon, will it be ok to drive the 200k to pick it up, I was talking to a fellow defender driver and he seem to think it would be ok to drive, advise please, I'm freaked out.......
    Thanks in advance

If it were me, I'd use plastic from a plastic bag to seal it. Secure the plastic around the threads on the neck with anything you can, a hoseclip if you have one would be ideal. If not string will do, as tight as you can. Put a small pin hole in the top of the plastic. If the plastic is very fine, layer it then put a pin hole in it. That will see you fine.
Did it with a series 111 when some idiot mechanic over filled it when it was in getting work done and it blew the top off the expansion tank.

    Spudfan,

Had a similar problem a few years ago and simply used a cap from an oil bottle from memory. It screwed on reasonably tightly but was not a perfect match in terms of the threat pitch.
Worked a treat for several weeks until I got around to purchasing a replacement genuine part.

Good thinking - I'll remember that.
The reason I mentioned the plastic bag option is that everyone seems to have one in the car, especially when travelling. And if there is no string a shoelace will do to secure it.

Just wanted to say thanks for the replies, ended up using a 15 lt water bottle cap gaffa tape and string then picked up a new cap when I got to Geraldtion. I was freaked out as I've only had the car 3 weeks. The car was unreal on its maiden trip. And the surf was unreal.
    Cheers
