Sankey Trailer Spring Alternatives

Hey guys,

Might be struggling with this one. I brought my Sankey over this year from the UK after an 'intense' overland trip

I managed to snap one leaf and they are sagging a lot. Im guessing they were pretty far gone before we left and all my attention was diverted to the 90.

Anyhow, does anybody know what alternative springs I could use to replace these?

Im thinking of re-packing them with new leaves and using only the main leaf, but this looks to be pretty bad anyway an I would rather do the lot.

Your Aussie experience would be appreciated

Sounds like my Sankey has had an easier time. The springs are still in verg good condition, although I don't think the PO did much with it - I've towed it quite a few thousand KM since I've had it, but over good roads usually.

I'd probably be going to a spring works and seeing if they have some ideas about what may fit, or at worst they could make you new ones up.

If you were in Sydney I'd tell you to head out to Lovells springs just looking in the yellow pages there is a spring works in Moorabbin called Moorabbin Spring Works. 62 Levanswell Rd, Moorabbin VIC 3189 (03) 9553 3446

They should be able to replace the broken leaves and re-set the rest of the pack. Spring steel stock in Aus is often different spec to the UK, so they may make the replacement leaves out of thicker stock, which may mean you need less leaves. They should advise.

I might be able to speak to Lovells and get something sorted. Do you think they can be saved? Not sure why mine are bad.

Bacicat, whats your rough measurement between spring and bumpstop? Mine isn't a lot and the springs look flat! we are lightly loaded, but Im not sure what it did in a former life. It did just cross some of the worse roads in the world and 40,000km.

Bump stop isn't really measureable on mine as I think it stops when the rubber bellows fully compress. The springs aren't quite straight in the photo below - trailer has the 101 and trailer spare in it at the moment, so a bit, but not much. I have had well over 1/2 tonne in it and the springs sit about flat with that weight in it. Towed it over 1,500KM with that weight in it and it works great with some weight in it.

Some of the British forums seem to suggest the spring pack is the same as a Series LWB rear spring (or one of the many variable choices). Would that be about right? It would make finding a replacement easier.
