    Pre Purchase Inspection

    Was recommended to a RR specialist for a pre purchase inspection on a 2010 RR TDV8
    Unfortunately they missed a leaking front suspension airbag and a tyre that was incorrectly fitted which cost over $1,700 to rectify. Should not have been missed as the leak could be heard by any competent inspection provider. Suggest be very careful when dealing with them
    Also make sure you get all quotes in writing as you could be in for a very nasty surprise when the time comes to collect your new purchase.

    I'd be very careful knocking Land Rover specialists... they're the only ones that can fix these things...

    If it was so obvious couldn't you have used your brain to evaluate it? It's also possible that it occurred after the sale...

    How does one incorrectly fit a tyre?

    Agree with the above, there are a fair few cases of dealers asking in assistance from some of the specialist around as they are more knowledgeable with teh vehicles.

    I would also like to know about this incorectly fitted tire?

    also, could you not request theese items to be fixed under stat warranty?

    if private purchase than also asuming it came with a saftey cert, would a leaking airbag not be a saftey cert fail? (i honestly dont know, but seems to be it should be if a leaking shock is?)
    tires are also checked at safter cert/rwc so should have been picked up then also?

    fair point, in such a case more likely that its the spare fitted and i would be checking the spare isnt punctured or the alike.

    If a front bag is leaking enough to be heard by “any competent inspection provider” it would be dropping as soon as the engine is shutdown and would be on the stops after a couple of minutes – anyone with half a brainwould spot it.

    If it is not covered by the stat warranty then I make the big assumption that it is a private purchase.

    So you are purchasing a (100k) car privately to get a cheaper deal then from a dealer??? That carries risk which you should be aware of, risk that increases without due diligence and increases further with cost cutting. Was the person tasked with inspection cheaper than the LR dealer would have been???

    If you have purchased a vehicle with these gleaming issues then you probably should have lined up at a dealer.

    As someone who privately purchased a 4 year old L322 Range Rover (from interstate) a while ago, I understand the allure of purchasing a high end car on the cheap. But I did my own inspection and due diligence – I knew the risks, I knew what I was doing, did my home work and collected the reward. If it had gone wrong I wouldn’t blame anyone else. (for the record I am not a LR repairer - I'm a IT manager)

    Actually quite funny; Man no doubt looking for a bargain – cutting everyone along the way, doesn’t quite go right and now screams - it’s everyone else’s fault because I have no idea what I’m looking at. Private sale + 1700 would still be cheaper that the dealer – get over it and move on.

    RRL - welcome to the forum!

    I dunno why this lot are all getting the hump?

    It is annoying to pay for a professional to look over a car and have them miss something that you would expect them to spot. These things do happen though. Just gotta lump it.

    A tire adjustment and air bag is pretty minor, it is a shame it cost you an unexpected $1700. Regardless how thorough the inspection there is always a risk that something is missed and always going to be elements of the unknown. I usually allow up to $2000 for 'unknown' issues on a second hand car and factor that into my negotiations.

    Even so - if a 'specialist' let me down on something trivial like that, I probably wouldn't use them again.

    Hi RRL. Also, welcome. I'm 50/50 on this one.. We need to know a few more facts... Was it a dealer purchase or private sale? How long after the inspection did you collect the car? Lots can happen in a few hours. Yes, I get where you're coming from, BUT boy am I glad I was not the guy who checked it out and missed the things you are cracking the ****s about. Don't take it too badly. I flew to Melbourne to buy a vehicle that was 'probably fit to drive to Adelaide'... With a head gasket gone, several holes in the fuel tank and a few other exciting things that needed attention, needless to say I flew home.... I did however buy the vehicle, now love it, and also get on well with the guy I bought it from!! Find the positive, and get on with enjoying your new vehicle and the joys of this forum. Cheers for now!
