    Fishing rod holder ?

Does anyone know of a fishing rod holder designed for mounting directly on the front bumper of D3/D4's ?

Something like this, but for vehicles without bulbars ?

Have a look at these,i went this way before i had a bar, very easy to use, work well.

Used them a lot for surf rods, and in some ways are better than having them on the bar.

They fit on roof bars or a rack

    They also hold skis.

    Magnetic type from anglerswarehouse.com.au

    Vaccuum type from vacrac.com.au

Personally, I don't think I'd use either of these styles. I'd look at something that attaches to your roofrack if you have one. I've got a bullbar, so it's not an issue for me.

The yanks do one that fits into your tow hitch if you have one - but I reckon that's something you'd only see in America.

Or you could always get industrious and knock up something like Billy Bob's good ole home made rod holder - and tec screw it to your plastic bumper.

    Cheers .........

    Hello from Brisbane.

I suspect the units that mount on bullbars or stick out the front of the vehicle will likely contravene some transport regulation or other.

If you are tempted to go down the route of using a ski or snowboard carrier as per scarry's post - I have a set of ski/snowboard carriers (Prorack) that are new in their box unused and/or a couple of the smaller universal carriers that fit roof bars (also unused) and depicted in the catalogue above that I would be interested in selling.

    Cheers,

I reckon that's the one to go for. Just so you can drive along and watch it slide off your aluminium bonnet and take your Big W fishing rods with it.

    Thanks for the ideas.

I've previously made some holders for my roof rack - a little like the rhino fittings, but they hang out the side rather than on top. They work well, except they're a little fiddly and my kids can't reach them (maybe that isn't such a bad design feature after all...). I like the bullbar style ones because they're very handy and easy to use, and was hoping that someone had come up with something to suit the non-bullbar vehicles. Guess I'll stick to my DIY PVC tube roof rack ones instead

These things are dangerous to pedestrians and should be banned. They can easily be made safe, though, by mounting them so they don't project in front of the bullbar.

A lot of people squawk about the dangers of bullbars, which if well designed have little danger at all, but say nothing of these rod holders which would cause serious injury to anyone they hit.

Someone ought to design a mounting for them so that they don't project in front of the bullbar. A good business potential...
