    roof rack interchangeability

I have been eyeing off some second hand Defender roof racks for a 2009 Defender. Do roof racks from earlier models fit or is there, for some unknown reason, differences between models???
    Many thanks, Brad.

To the best of my knowledge they should fit. I have fitted my old roof rack from my Discovery 1 to my Defender. It sits a bit high, but works fine.

    Cheers,

I have had the same roof rack on 4 defenders from a 1992, 1997 . 2000 and a puma. It will fit.

    roof rack defender.

Brad, as the others say should be no problem, I don't think landrover has changed the county /defender roof pressing for 30 years, my roof rack comes from a county. I cut it in half and added a meter . It's easy to check, just measure the distance across the gutters. A defender rack has fairly long mounting legs because of the roof shape.

LR has changed roof pressings, early One Tens had big ribs external of the roof, tdi era Defenders had a smooth roof and I think Puma era Defenders have a slightly ribbed roof, for her pleasure.
Some roof bars such as Rhino don't fit the early roofs without purchasing rail spacers to raise the bar slightly.

    Red face pressings?

Good on ya Mark, I'm learning new stuff, keen observer of landies that i am I never saw one , I have vague recollection of series landies having some corrugations. That might be why my roof rack sits a little above the roof about 50 mm. My roof rack would clear even a series tropical roof i think. Early 110s would be going back a bit, to the early 80s?.
