    spare wheel winch and warranty

Well I did it. l wound the winch cable up without the wheel on it. I read the manual. It says you can. I remember reading some where not to do it. (here!) But I forgot and so I checked the manual. ..... Anyway it broke I was dropping my wheel in to get it fixed and went to do other stuff. what other choice is there.

So has anyone claimed this under warranty?

I had one replaced under warranty, but then the only people who ever wound it up and down at that time had been the dealer.

It's a winch. Put some load on it by hand when re-spooling

Mine has also failed after returning from trip. Spare was on roof rack, so cable was wound up. Tried to drop cable when home, but cable snagged and now will not drop even if I put all my weight on it!
There is nothing in the handbook to suggest that you have to keep tension on the cable, so i will be requesting replacement under warranty.

If the vehicle is in Warranty &/or LR Extended Warranty then it will be replaced.

Anybody going to put their hand up to cranking the bejabers out of it after it stopped retracting, regardless of the height of the yoke? ... geez ....

Got mine replaced under Extended warranty (Allianz) no problem.

So question is have they addressed the problem and put a "new improved" one on that won't snag or do you still have to just not wind it up without a load.
