    reverse camera nightmare

What am I doing wrong. I bought a after market NAV unit with Reverse camera. the camera worked when I tested it.But when I got it installed the camera didn't work. So l bought a cheaply camera off ebay. It works but is a bit crap. lt flickers and scrolls, So I bought another $23 camera off ebay. All l had to do was plug it in. lt worked for about a minute then stopped. It appears to be dead. Are these ebay cameras just rubbish or is there something crazy about the reverse light power?

    One option

You could try to supply the camera from a separate Battery to test it.
At least that will show which way to go ......
the Disco can have up to 15.3 volts which may be overloading your cheap cameras.

    Maybe

Been thinking about fitting one of these. Which nav unit did you buy?
If you have a multi meter you might be able to troubleshoot the problem better.

Mine was rubbish until I got rid of the wireless transmitter and receiver and ran coax from camera to GPS/video.

Unsure if you mean you had someone instal it for you or did you do it yourself? ....to sort of answer your question go to a good car audio shop and ask the price of a colour reversing camera.... They run in the $hundreds so if you are only paying $23 on ebay there's 2 conclusions you could draw - the ebay camera is cheap & nasty and will inevitably be poor quality and fail early or the other is the mainstream brands sold in car audio shops are an absolute rip off with a 10x markup on them?.

The quality is good enough for what I want. The new one was great for the minute that it worked, There's no way I'm paying hundreds for one. 1 don't want to take photos with it.

l measured Voltage and its 11.9V. Unless it spikes when I select reverse but I can't put it in reverse and be behind the car at the same time

Ebay seller says they will refund the money or replace. Try again or try and find a better one.

Anyone know dealers in Sydney that sell them?

Repco have ok ones on special at the moment for about $50. Picture quality is good but not great, but does the job. The camera doesn't have its own lights.
