Information about seal in water pump

My mate has my Series 1 water pump in pieces ATM, it all came apart without too much drama, but the 2 seals that I have do not fit. The seal outside diameter needed for the job is 1.445", ?? could this be the same size seal as fitted to Series2 etc. I have no way of seeing it as it's 100k's from my place, any one have any ideas? cheers Dennis

Here are some images etc of the said pump and it's internals, this is a rough sketch of the spindle etc

here is an image of the impellor and spindle and the seals, the worn out seal is at the bottom, the 2 upper seals are Series 1 but neither will fit

the pump must be a re-manufactured pump, possibly using Series 2 bits??

hoping that this might jog somebody's memory, cheers Dennis

    Hi Dinty,

I see youre not having much luck with your waterpump repairs. The following link is what I have done to repair klonks waterpump, Its a bit of work and will cost if you have to get someone to do it for you, but a couple of hrs would do it and next time only the bearing would have to be machined.

The bearing and seal cost about $45. Its a 5/8 mechanical seal and a 5/8 waterpump bearing, any good bearing shop would have them

Just looked at a Bearmach water pump repair kit I have 'in stock' for Series 2/3 and the shaft/bearings are different dimensions.

Seal is coming up at 1.430" OD

Didn't I read somewhere that a tractor (maybe Grey Fergie) pump innards were about the same ?

Thanks Steve, I was told by my mate Kevin to try the local bearing service for the spindle bearing, and that I would have to machine it to fit my application. The seal looks almost identical to the seal as used in S2/2A 4 cyl water pumps, I am yet to confirm that, I'm in no big hurry as I have 3 jobs on the go ATM, and checking 3 vehicles for their run next Saturday to Newcastle for 'All British Day', anyway thanks for the link to your repair, cheers Dennis
ps Kev my mate is in the agricultural field, he is a Surveyor but very clever setting up ag/ spraying gear etc,,.
