Rear Parking Sensor Issues - Discovery 3

    Hi Guys,

Just looking for some guidance from the more experienced....

Had my Discovery 3 for a number of years without too many issues. Just recently, the reverse parking sensors stopped beeping. When you shift into reverse the dash light flashes without any sounds. Whilst driving, unless you press it, it wont stop flashing for the entire journey.

Thinking it is the buzzer which had stopped working, I removed it to possibly replace with a universal buzzer from Jaycar. I tested the voltage going to the buzzer with a multimeter and I was getting 10.2V when the AUX was on. When you turn on the engine, I was getting around 14V. I removed the buzzer to test off a 12V battery but didn't get any sound from it.

I can only assume the parking sensor module is working fine as it is sending voltage to the sounder. But what is confusing to me is why I am getting a constant 14V to the buzzer when the car is on. Shouldn't the voltage going to the buzzer pulse unless of course there was an object right behind the vehicle?? Has anyone had a similar issue or know how to fix this problem? Could I be looking in the wrong place??

    Cheers

I am certainly no expert, and could be way off, but when I was playing around with the sensors when I fitted the mitch hitch with rear carrier, I found out the hard way that they are all linked, well atleast on my D3. I disconnected 1 by accident and none of them worked.

May be worth having a quick look to see if 1 sensor had a broken wire or something silly.

Thanks for the info Ean, did you only notice when the sounder stopped working? Did you also have the same issues on the dashboard?

TBH I never noticed anything on the dash. Im not sure what lights come up on the dash, but if they did I certainly didn't notice, but I was only driving up and down my driveway whilst I tried to work out what was wrong.

Possibly just the speaker as in many of the D3's now the speaker is full of dust & crud.
They aren't that expensive to buy & an easy replacement.

Thanks sniegy. you could be right, however light flashes while travelling forward, not in reverse. when in reverse there is no flashing light or noise. I think the eratic behavior suggests that the module is the problem, but don't know where it is. Don't know where the speaker or fuse is either.

Disco is a 2005 HSE, I have looked in all the nooks and crannies I can find, but no luck. Just about identicle problem to rovicroy last year,

Hope somebody will have seen it before

On my D2 I had one of the four sensors fail. When in reverse if you put your ear up to a working sensor it makes a faint noise. When one failed the whole system doesn't work.

Don't know if the D3 is the same but thought I would share this anyway.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

    d3 HSE rear sensor problem

Thanks every one your contributions, every little bit helps the knowledge bank.

However still driving up rd with sensor light flashing- no noise, but sensors not working.

Sensors all pass the listen to test. No noise or light in reverse. still trying to locate the module.

    All contributions gratefully excepted
