It's common. People are dumb sometimes. Just not paying attention, trying to get some where, autopilot, daydreaming or just plain being stupid.

Then again, some drivers do not understand the concept of safe stopping distance.

Alas, once upon a time the mere mention to my wife that she was too close to the vehicle in front would cause her to snarl and dismiss the idea.

Then one rainy day on the way to the airport not 10 seconds after one such comment & reaction she drove the tow ball of the 4x4 in front of her through the front & radiator!

She learned & is a safer driver for it today.

You're post made me chuckle though. Just the other day a bloke was convicted of shooting out the fuel tank of a car doing a similar thing to you (his claim). Don't own a .357 do ya?

Well, for those interested, it happened this morning just after 11 on the gateway motorway, just outside of Boondall, northbound.

The vehicle was a late-ish model TD5 Disco, personalized plates, 3 letters, 2 numbers, white text on a black plate. I'd call it a "champagne gold" or "champagne bronze". Wasn't jacked up or anything, 5 spoke mags. 5th wheel was also a mag, hanging off the tailgate.

One old lady driver, dark hair, wearing sunglasses as black as night. Might have been wearing diamond earrings?

She started tailgating just outside Boondall, nearly pancaked me into the light rigid just after the three lanes separate (two to the sunny coast, the other continues straight). Nearly ran up my arse just before the motorway bridge that's painted blue. I managed to jump into the left lane after a ute passed, then she tailgated the light ridgid. She seemed to follow me relentlessly, followed me from lane to lane, tailgating every time I accelerated out of her way. At one point I SWEAR she slowed down so I'd go past her, only to have her up my arse. This continued well onto the Bruce Highway northbound, she was speeding all the way, did not slow down for roadworks, at which point I contacted Police link, gave them a full description of both vehicle and driver.

You did the right thing, she needs a major attitude adjustment.
