    Number plate recognition cameras.

My sister was pulled over a few weeks ago by police after the numberplate recognition camera picked up her numberplate and alarm bells over unpaid fines showed up. This is where the sherriff's dept is on hand to clamp your car. She bought this car from a dealership nearly 12 months ago. After showing her driver's licence to prove she was not the person wanted she was let go. The police woman told her that she will be pulled up again as it's the numberplate that is used to find these people.
Now one would think that once you buy a car and the purchasers details are entered at Vic Roads then change of ownership is certified and you would think that rego number would be cleared on the warrant list. So such luck.
Sister gets pulled up again three weeks later, same police woman, who recognized her from last time, said to my sister to go on get going, but get your number plates changed as you will be continued to be pulled up in the future.
One would think that everything would be ok after Vic roads change over ownership occured, but sadly not, so she got new number plates, at her expense.

    Number-plate recognition stuff-up

Shouldn't be necessary, I agree, but seems like the sensible and effective solution.

What a load of typical bureaucratic bollocks !

Why the hell should your sister be out of pocket for new plates - just to avoid continually being stuffed around due to a lack of simple data integrity checks by these clowns!...

They can afford the new whizz bang cameras - but no one can afford to ensure the data they are using is accurate?... bloody typical.

Don't get me wrong - I am very pleased they are using this technology to catch the tools that drive around unlicensed, unregistered and continuously abuse the system.

But the least they could do is cross check their own information to reduce this sort of negative impact on those of us that do the right thing

Tin foil hat off... rant over... think it's time for a beer

    Question

Yeah, when this happens, they (THE POLICE) should scrub the records from this plate & see if that person who owes the dollars has registered another car, or as a double check, see if there is another car registered to the previous owner's address?

I assume it's Vicroads database they are accessing (Or an out of date copy of..)....so the cops may not be able to edit it..... but there definitely should be some system in place to manage this stuff.
