MY14 "standard" lights - high beam adjustment

I have the standard halogen lights on my MY14 and while the low beam is well positioned and gives good light, the high beam is useless - most of the light is up in the trees metres above where you need it. I have checked out the light itself and there are adjustment screw but they appear to adjust the whole assembly which is not going to work as the low beams are good where they are! I've also downloaded the "headlight adjustment" section off Topix and that confirms what I've seen on the car.

I have read all the strings about the "possum spotters" I could find but got the impression they were related to the optional Bi-Xenon lights not the standard ones?

Has anyone any advice on whether I am able to adjust the high beam separately? I can't even tell without breaking it open how it works as high beam and low beam use the same reflector... which I assume means I'm stuck?

    Thanks.

I would make sure the high beam bulbs are fitted correctly and point the lights at a wall to see where the beams are really showing.

I have the 14 D4 standard halogens. Have been wondering whether the alignment is too high, or the HIR bulbs just don't pack enough punch to light the road that far away.

We are currently travelling around Aus and the distance the (useful) light travel on the road in the bush is pathetic against my old D3 xenons. They do light up reflectors miles away though.

Old D3 xenons were setup looking miles down the road but actually lit it up.

So I think they just need more candle power. HID KIT?
Hard to find for the new 9012 HIR2 bulbs in the new units.

Looks like an expensive bull bar and spotties will be my option:0)

Shame LR won't let you retro fit bixenons.

I wonder if a iidtool could change the shutter angle of the projector lenses?

Updated my lights to hid, solved the light issue . Did actually lower the lights by a small a mouth to get the main beam on the road .

I have an MY14 with the bi Xenons. The light angle was fine but CRAP amount of light. My D3 had way better lights. So I fitted a spotty/led bar bracket (made locally and all hidden) to compensate. Posted in under Thread Novel Light bracket.

Hi Doddsy, just this weekend I pulled the lights out to replace the high beam bulbs with a pair of Osram Nighbreaker Unlimited H7 globes - FAIL! Thanks to Land Rover for clearly stating they are "H7" globes in the owner's manual and then installing HIR2 globes...

Can anyone tell me how these "base spec" lights actually work - there is no separate "low" and "high" beam globes that I can see, and only one filament in the HIR2 globe - is this correct?? How then does low/high beam work - is there a shutter like in a HID? There is a very definite cutoff in the low beam pattern, but both low and high beam light comes from the "projector" section of the light, which has confused me somewhat...

    Hoping someone can enlighten me!

Hey silkhammer, you are spot on..
1 bulb, with a projector and shutter system, like the bi-xenon lights in my old D3.

There is no brighter halogen bulb (globe) than the HIR2 ..

So.. That's it as far as upgrading, unless you go HID.

The light assembly takes the hir2 bulb which is 9012 standard.

There isn't a kit for 9012... But 9006 fits without modification.

The manual is annoying , mine states H7 too.

Thanks Doddsy, much appreciated. Makes more sense now.

There is heaps of actual light output there, just poorly aimed on high beam (too high up) and as such mostly wasted. The high beam on my falcon with conventional "non-projector" lights is much better (ironically with standard H7 globes). Goes to show that you can have the best globe in the world but with a poor reflector design it's wasted.

Looks like an upgrade is on the cards, was trying to avoid spots but something like Hatchy's setup might be the go...
