    Medical cannabis

"THE people of Norfolk Island are fighting for theterritory’s right to become Australia’s legally-grown cannabis capital —Cannabis Island.
More than 14,000 supporters have rallied behind a petitionto allow medicinal cannabis to be grown on Norfolk Island.

Last week that licence was overturned by Norfolk’sAustralian government representative Gary Hardgrave who has the final say onthese matters."
Is this not indicitive of our short sighted, ill-informed, (insert more expletives),
    pollies.

Please stick to discussing the subject matter here, not the politics of it.

What's the difference between medicinal cannabis and recreational cannabis?
Sure there's lots of anecdotes out there - let's have some hard evidence.
How much should they grow on your Cannabis Island for medical use?
How and where will it be processed, stored etc.
how will it be administered to recipients? Smoke it? Make it in to tablets?
Has it been through medical trials?
What to do with the excess?
How do they keep the farm secure from fence hopping samplers?
I'm all for medicinal use for good reasons - but what even are these? Maybe intractable pain of cancer would be one. Would it be appropriate to treat simple anxiety with it?
How do we police things like driving while under its effects?
Lot of questions to be answered before they go ahead.
I understand the pollies (and probably others) reluctance.

Just for starters, 23 states in the U.S.A where it is leagl for medical use must be some kind of indication that it has benifits. I can well understand the concerns that organised criminals would love to get in on it, but have a look at Tassie's poppy crop.
Driving under the influence - the police have just introduced new equipment for detecting just this. there is no difference than driving under heavy perscribed sedation.
Surely, surely a natural drug would be better than having chemical companies synthizise (harmful) chemicals for those who need it, thereby dominating what is avalible for those who need it.

P.S IMHO, big chemical companies are more suseptible to corruption and skullduggery than a state controlled enterprize.

Lots of questions to answer, but yes, others in the world are using it successfully, so I'm sure we could model something off those that have already begun to learn from its use.

Under certain circumstances, I have no issue with it.

I don't see an issue. After all, we quite happily accept that opium is refined into morphine (and other drugs), and the control is handled reasonably well.

So why not the same for medical mary jane?

And ice is used as a prescription drug, however, delivery method plays an important part in it's safe use.

Most recreational smokers are self medicating for a stress or anxiety disorders with it because it works better than the prescription ones and have none of the truly horrendous side effects the highly priced, poorly understood and relatively dangerous but legal options have.

I agree. Controlled delivery methods along with controlled purity are key.
