I'd like to ride these roads...

I took this pic today from the bus I was on. There were a lot of bikes on the road. This is the Maloja Pass road between Switzerland and Italy. The road drops for hundreds of metres like this.

The trouble is I'm not good on hairpins.



The pic was a grab with the camera pointed at the window, I couldn't frame it.

The second pic is one taken on the Julier Pass road yesterday.

Lovely! It would nearly be worth taking the Buell to Europe just for some of the fantastic roads.

Road through those on the BMW Ron, after a while, hairpins can be annoying, all in all, very enjoying, the whole trip was part of my solo european 6mth adventure, zig zagging back and forth from Germany to Austria, Italy, France and so on, Alps Maritimes was good also.

Yep, I think you are right, Baz. I went across another pass, the Simplon Pass, which would have been much nicer to ride but I have no pix (I don't think).

There were a lot of bikes on it.

I drove some of those mountain passes just a few months ago.

The Grimsel Pass ~2200m. Looking from the top towards the southern side.


The Grosslockner Pass ~2500m. Looking from near the top towards the northern side


The crew, after getting over and down the other side of the Grosslockner. Was a chilly day in the old WWII girls.


Didn't see many bikes on the Grosslockner Pass. Maybe a bit cold and slippery for them but the Grimsel pass was just packed with bikers.

Wot? No heaters in the oldies? They must have been slow going up the passes.

That Grimsel Pass looks a ripper to ride.

It's almost worth going back just to ride all of them.

Going up was slow. Going down even slower - brakes aren't much to speak of on these things so it's engine breaking all the way down. Drives the Aston Martin guys bonkers.

I drove your 2 several times when I lived in europe Ron. Mostly in our golf. Quite often someone on a bike would round a bend on the wrong side of the road and narrowly miss you. Once I tried to follow a smart roadster down julier pass. The golf was squealing tyres on every corner and only just keeping up.

How about some home grown hills. The Gillies, between Gordonvale and Yungaburra, is in my opinion one of the best rides this country has to offer.
