    Long range automotive (LRA) tank?

My newly purchased d3 has a LRA tank installed. The tank seems to be empty, however the gauge is still showing 1/2. Just wondering if anyone has one of these tanks installed and has any details on the sender/gauge setup to assist in fault finding. I've just sent an email to LRA so I'll see what they respond with.
Also if anyone has a copy of the installation instructions it would be appricated as it would assist in fault finding.

    Hi,

I will detail the wiring that I have. If you check it back as a first step.
The LED indicator has 4 wires.
Red goes through a 5amp fuse and connects to a 12 volt ignition source.
Yellow goes to the fuel pump. Black from the pump goes to earth.
White goes to the VDO guage sender on the tank
Black goes to the other terminal on the sender ( which is a brown wire ) and also to an earth point.

    Hope this helps.

My gauge stopped working a long time ago. I just don't bother with it now. 2 fills from half on the main gauge and the last a 3/4 empties the aux tank.

    Same on my previous car.

It would some times go green when empty and red when full.

I just got into a habbit of pumping when half full and keeping an eye on how many kms done as I knew roughly how many I should get.

You sure know when your aux is empty when pumping

I did contact LRA and they asked me to verify ohms values. Seemed to much hassle so I resorted to above.

I may get another one for my D4 so hopefully it goes better than my precious one. But it is not a big deal in the end

The gauge on my LRA tank stopped working too. I just run the pump until it starts sounding awful, and the range computer stops adding kilometres.

I might have to look into mine a bit deeper, the tank sounds empty when I give it a tap on the outside - gauge was showing empty tonight, yet I can only just hear the pump running. Since I can't get into looking at it for a while I'll just full the tank and see if it works

Seems like my tranfser pump is not working. Had the pump turned on for an hour and no change to main fuel level. How long do you guys expect a tranfser of fuel to take?
